Sabah Wildlife Adventure
Travel across Sabah on an 11-day journey that combines mountain trekking, river wildlife, coastal conservation and village stays. The route takes in Kota Kinabalu, Kinabalu National Park, the Kinabatangan River, Sepilok, Sandakan and Turtle Islands Marine Park. Begin in Kota Kinabalu, then spend time in Kg Lobong-Lobong village, where daily life, farming activities and shared meals offer a close look at local traditions. Continue to Kinabalu National Park for the climb of Mt Kinabalu, with a night near Laban Rata before the summit attempt and descent. From there, head east into the rainforest for boat trips on the Kinabatangan River, where wildlife viewing can include macaques, orangutans, proboscis monkeys and, if luck is on your side, pygmy elephants. Visit Sepilok to see orangutan rehabilitation work, then cross to Turtle Islands Marine Park for an overnight stay and a guided turtle-watching experience. The trip ends in Sandakan after time to explore at a gentler pace. This trip includes time at altitude, so read the Medical & Health Information before booking. You will also need to pack specific items; check the Packing List in the Essential Trip Information. Accommodation varies and includes dormitory-style stays, a homestay, a resort, a jungle lodge and hotels. Some nights are simpler than standard hotel stays, but they place you close to the landscapes and communities visited on the trip.
